Superior girls tie for third place at first track meet

The Superior boys and girls track team had a good showing at their first season meet. The meet took place on Wednesday, March 31 at the Dornblaser Field in Missoula. The girls had a huge showing tying third with Darby overall in the team ranking with 64 points, while the boys didn't fair so badly, winding up ninth overall with a total of 19.5 points.

In the 200 meter dash, Garrett Stephens took fifth place with a time of 24. 80 seconds. Distance runner Bajin Smith took third in the 800 meter dash with a quick time of 2:09.07. The boys' 1,600 relay team secured a third place finish with a time of 3:56.83. At the javelin throw, Eric Steinebach scored a fifth place win, hurling the javelin 142 feet, 8 inches. Smith tied for sixth place at the long jump, jumping 18 feet, 0 ¼ inches. Kevin Ryan managed fifth place in the pole vault, 10 feet.

In the girls' events, Kinzie Cooper took third place at the pole vault with a height of six feet, six inches. Cooer also took a fourth place finish home in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.79 seconds. As part of the 400 meter relay team Cooper, along with Nicole Stroot, Kaitlynn Koke and Ashley Blaylock, took first with a time of 53.44 seconds. Blaylock, Koke and Stroot also teamed up with Shelby Cooper to score a first place finish in the 1,600 meter relay with a time of 4:41.47.

Blaylock also took home a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.52. Stroot took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.78 seconds and took first in the long jump jumping 15 feet, 11 and a half inches. Koke brought scored a second place finish in the javelin throw with 93 feet, seven and a half inches. In the triple jump, Shelby Cooper took fourth with 31 feet, 10 inches.

Alberton sends one to state

Twelve Alberton Panthers competed at divisional track over the past weekend, but only one ended up performing well enough in order to stamp a ticket to state. Jake Thompson will represent the Alberton Panthers at the state track meet this weekend in an event that Coach Rachel Clevenger said they weren't expecting. Thompson, who is a sophomore, took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-7.

St. Regis students get pleasant surprise

St. Regis students received a surprise this week after they finished taking their semester tests on Monday. Yearbooks are a creative outlet that commemorates an important time in your life. While making them is hard work, the result is a fun way to document life and hold onto good memories. On Monday, thanks to the support of businesses from around the county, last year’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen all received a free year book. The seniors of class 2010 also received a free book.
