The letter to the editor about someone following a police officer, driving while working on his laptop, reminded me of a story from years ago. A Montana Highway Patrolman pulled over a very religious gentleman, who was mechanical minded, for erratic driving.

  The driver didn’t want to waste a minute of his time driving. He was determined to read his Bible. He had fashioned a book holder, mounted to his steering wheel, which would keep his Bible horizontal while he steered his car. Needless to say, he got a ticket.

 Another Montana Highway Patrolman turned on his lights when a drunk driver got stuck in a ditch. The car was still running, and according to the driver’s speedometer, he was going over 80 mph. So the patrolman started running in place, keeping up with the driver who was spinning his wheels. The driver’s window was down and the cop said, “Turn off the motor!” several times. Finally he gave up. He said, “I can’t drive faster than you can run.”
