TOPPENISH — Dropping two-of-three doubles matches was enough for the Othello Huskies to lose a close 3-2 decision at Toppenish on Saturday.

David Charles won at No. 1 singles for the Huskies, recording a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win while the No. 3 doubles team of Marcus Garza and Wesley Cogswell took a 6-2, 7-5 decision, to finish off the Othello scoring.

ROYAL — A tough day for setting full tennis lineups hurt hosts Royal and their two visitors, Highland and Naches Valley, on Saturday.

In the end the makeshift lineups fell just a bit short for Royal which lost 3-1 to Highland and 4-1 to Naches Valley.

Against Highland, both teams were short a No. 2 singles player so they drew that match on the ladder.

Royal got their only win at No. 1 doubles as Noah Grant and Chase Hebdon took a 6-4, 7-5 decision.

Royal forfeited at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles and dropped their only other match to play out, at No. 2 doubles.

Against Naches, Noah Grant played No. 1 singles and pulled out Royal’s sole win, a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of Terrance Kleeschulte.

Due to having players out for other commitments, Royal forfeited matches at No. 2 doubles and singles and No. 3 doubles.

TOPPENISH — Despite being on the road the Othello Lady Huskies recorded a resounding 5-0 win at Toppenish Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Othello squad did not drop a set while sweeping their Central Washington Athletic Conference rivals.

In singles play, Ashleigh Snyder recorded a win at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3, while Othello’s No. 2 player, Emily Morgen recorded a crushing, 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Othello was just as overwhelming in doubles action as the No. 1 team of Jody Walker and Kayla Spor won 6-2, 6-4, the No. 2 duo of Emma Hymus and Jocelyn Cantu rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory, and the No. 3 pairing of Yanita Cantu and Amelia Roylance cruised, 6-2, 6-2.

ROYAL — With little practice time over the past two weeks due to inclement weather conditions, the Royal Lady Knights too to the courts on Saturday for a triangular against Highland and Naches Valley.

In the end, the girls fell to the two top clubs — 3-2 to Highland and 5-0 to Naches Valley.

Against Highland, Royal won its two points in singles play after Breahna Weisser and Monica Sanchez both recorded default victories.

In doubles play, Highland found a way to win all three matches in two-set sweeps, losing a scant total of four games.

Both teams were hurt by missing players due to other commitments.

Against Naches Valley, the Lady Knights dropped all five matches and did not win a set despite battling hard according to coach Joshua Drewry.

Drewry also noted that as the season continues his lineups should be solidified and they can continue making strides.
