The Eureka High School girls tennis team handed Troy a 6-0 loss in the Lady Trojans’ season-opener on Friday.

Troy’s Jackie Pepiot dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to Casey Armstrong at No. 1 singles and Tara Duzan fell by a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 count to Karina Hofstee at No. 2 singles. Eureka’s Angela Bailey powered past Sara Helmrick, 6-0, 6-1 and Veda Henion downed Kelly Kinney, 6-0, 6-0.

Eureka was awarded two more wins by forfeit in the doubles matches.

Mission took a slim victory over Troy thanks to a couple of forfeits at doubles on Saturday.

The two teams split four singles matches. Troy’s Duzan defeated Becky Hiatt, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles and Kinney downed Alex Guimee, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-8 in a marathon at No. 4 singles.

Pepiot and Helmrick came up short in the other two singles matches.

Pepiot and Duzan won an exhibition match at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, but it officially had to go down as a forfeit because those two athletes played singles. The same situation existed at No. 2 doubles with Helmrick, who teamed up with Carmen Pease to win an exhibition match, 8-2.

The Lady Trojans were scheduled to host Clark’s Fork, Idaho, on Tuesday. The next match will also be on the home courts on Saturday at 11 a.m., against Valley Christian.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond

The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
