The Troy High School softball team opened the season on Saturday with a tough opponent in Loyola Sacred Heart. The Breakers took a 10-0 victory behind a two-hit shutout by pitcher Sarah Goodman.

The Lady Trojans got off to a good start with leadoff batter Alyssa Olds and No. 2 hitter Megan Cummings.

“We started off the game with the first two hitters getting basehits … but we ended up not scoring that inning and left the bases loaded,” Troy coach Russ Thompson said.

Thompson said the team came out with the early-season jitters and committed six errors. Jordan Williams took the loss for Troy at pitcher.

The Lady Trojans followed up with a second game on Saturday and dropped a 12-2 decision to unbeaten Florence.

Troy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and also reached home plate in the third inning for its two runs. Olds, Cummings, Kimmy Klin and Williams each collected hits for Troy.

Williams was the pitcher of record for the Trojans.

Troy (0-2) was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Deer Lodge on Tuesday. Because of travel distance, the two schools will meet at Plains for games beginning at 3 p.m.

On Thursday afternoon, the Trojans play at Mission. First pitch for the varsity game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond

The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
