WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Janéa Holmquist, R-Moses Lake, is an inaugural graduate of the University of Idaho’s Energy Policy Planning Program.
She completed a series of classes through the Legislative Energy Horizon Institute with a focus on improving her understanding of energy transmission and generation.
“The training and expertise I received through this program will allow me to make better-informed decisions when working on energy issues,” explained Holmquist. “I have added more depth to my knowledge of the intricate nature of our energy grid, how energy is delivered to consumers, a better understanding of how these issues impact job creation, and the role of the energy sector in our overall economy.”
The classes were funded by the private energy sector and did not come at a cost to taxpayers.
“Working with colleagues from across the country and Canada to better understand our energy system in the Pacific Northwest has helped forge relationships that will be necessary in addressing multi-state energy infrastructure and policy issues,” Holmquist stated.
She attended the classes since last summer and is one of 44 lawmakers selected to participate. She serves the Senate Environment, Water and Energy Committee.
