Doris L. Root, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at her residence in Kalispell. She was born in Kevin on April 23, 1927, to Harold and Myrtle (Stover) Miller. She was one of 13 children and lived most of her life in the Shelby and Kevin area. On Feb. 9, 1949, she married William Billy Root. They raised three children and always had time for their nieces and nephews. Doris loved to play cards, cook and watch any kind of sports. She belonged to a bowling league and was a member of the Eagles. She was always in on a good practical joke. They moved to Kalispell in 1967 where she continued to be a homemaker and supporter of her husband s music. The family was most important to her and she never forgot a birthday. After 51 years of marriage, she lost the love of her life on Thanksgiving eve, 2000. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and her nine siblings, seven brothers, Robert, Bud, Hal, Kenny, Glen, Leonard and Richard Miller, and one sister, Margaret McLeod; and an infant; also her husband, Billy. She is survived by one son, Thomas W. Root, of Shelby; two daughters, Nancy Reid and husband, Tom, and Judy Schreckendgust and husband, Bo, all of Kalispell; two stepdaughters, Shirley Ballantyne and husband, Jim, of Shelby, and Diane Roberge and husband, Leo, of Kalispell; four grandchildren, James Schreckendgust and Jason Schreckendgust and wife, Lisa, Robert Reid and significant other, Amy Gries, all of Kalispell, and Melissa Reid Speer and husband, Cory, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, five stepgrandchildren, Damon, Lance and Jamie Ballantyne, and Marcie and Jerrett Roberge; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Welker of Shelby, and Mary Jean Reeser of Spokane; and one brother, Jack Miller, of Billings. Funeral services for Doris will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at Johnson - Gloschat Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ron Pierce officiating. Burial will follow services at Glacier Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held at the Eagles.
