Shirley Marie Truman-Kaufman, 74, of Eureka, born Feb. 23, 1936, went home to our heavenly father peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Shirley was born to Franklin Wayne Truman and Nellie May Triplett-Truman at Mrs. Olson s in Eureka. The Truman family homesteaded on the West Kootenai near Rexford in August 1910. Shirley lived most of her life in the Rexford and Eureka areas. Shirley was a very spiritual person who loved reading her Bible. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Her other hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking and baking for the holidays. On Dec. 12, 1954, Shirley Marie Truman married Anthony Paul Torres in Eureka. Together they had five children, Andy, Rocky, Suzze, Teresa and Barbara Ann Torres. Following the divorce of this union, Shirley married Darrell Pop Kaufman on Jan. 25, 1985. Together they shared many years filled with happiness and precious memories. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year. Shirley is survived by her loving husband Darrell Kaufman; her children; Andy Torres of Billings, Rocky Torres and Sue Torres of Gillette, Wyo., Teresa Torres of Whitefish and Barbara Ann Torres of Columbia Falls; stepfather Don Darling of Rexford; sisters Barbara Jean Cook of Eureka, Sharkey and her husband Tom Kraus of Whitefish, Cheri and her husband David Butts of Rexford; brother Frank Bud Truman of Drummond; uncle Gordy Triplett of Missoula; brother in-law Bruce and his wife Wanda Kaufman of Baker City, Ore., sister-in-law Sandy Kaufman of Kelowna, B.C.; stepchildren Darylene, Sam, Mike and Steven Kaufman, all of Florida; special caretaker (other son), Danny Williamson, whom we are forever indebted to; Faye Oldhouse, her dearest and loyal friend to the end; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, sister Lorse May, grandson Levi Flint, granddaughters Angie Schwirse and Brenda, Slade and Dylan Groene, and many more relatives. Funeral services are under the direction of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Eureka. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Baptist Church in Eureka.
