MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Fire Department responded to two vehicle fires Friday and Saturday.
On Friday morning, a Jeep Wrangler caught fire as it was being driven on West Valley Road.
The driver told authorities her brakes began to fail while she was on Valley Road and she wasn’t sure if she would be able to stop, Moses Lake police reported Monday. She pulled off of Valley and onto North Central Drive to try to a stop.
“As she was stopping, she noticed fire and smoke coming from under her hood,” police reported. “She quickly got out of the vehicle. Residents and business people from the area brought in five extinguishers in an attempt to stop the fire.”
A police officer brought in a sixth fire extinguisher but advised the efforts hardly slowed the fire’s progression.
The fire totaled the Jeep Wrangler and damaged the rear of a parked truck, police reported.
The fire department arrived a few minutes after the fire was reported and extinguished it. The fire was ruled accidental and there were no injuries.
A second vehicle fire was reported Saturday night near the corner of A Street and West Columbia Avenue.
The engine compartment of the Dodge Caravan was fully engulfed when the fire department arrived. Firefighters used about 200 gallons of water to extinguish the flames.
The fire was ruled accidental and was due to a faulty electrical connection.
There were no injuries.
