This weekend is the busiest of the year on the lakes in our region. It’s the opening of the lowland lake trout season and every body of water, whether its open year-round or starting on the 24th, will be packed with anglers. An estimated 300,000 folks will head out for their first fishing trip of the season and many of them will be headed our direction. Every year there are some that first forget to get their new license for the season and have to make a stop at their local sporting goods store or hope that the resort sells them, and many don’t. They also forget to put in the life jackets, and believe me there will be enforcement officers out checking. Getting a spot at their favorite lake may be possible, but let me suggest a couple of spots that could probably fit them in, despite the crowds. Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee has a huge camping area that just never seems to fill, and the fishing for rainbow and a few browns should be excellent. Up north, at the Conconully lakes, there are four resorts and a State Park, and both lakes are loaded with fish. Even further north at Lost Lake, the park there is never full and it is also full of brook trout.
