WARDEN — After a scoreless first half the Warden Cougars would be blown away for the last 40 minutes of their contest against Wahluke on Thursday.

Even though most of the damage was done by Mother Nature, the visiting Wahluke squad took advantage of a strong wind at their backs in the second half and found a way to pull out a key South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East 2-0 win.

“They just were began dominating the midfield and created opportunities to score,” Warden coach Ed Aguilar said.

Wahluke scored their first goal off of a goalkeeping error by Warden (4-4, 1-3) led to a foul in the penalty box.

Luis Rivera drilled the penalty kick in and Wahluke had the lead.

Warden thwarted a few more scoring chances by their guests but couldn’t capitalize themselves.

Early in the half Antonio Figueroa took a direct kick that hit the post, bounced back into the field of play and the follow up shot was just off by inches.

Wahluke would score again only a few moments after their PK and they would on to win.

Royal 11, Ki Be 0

ROYAL CITY — If a team wanted to make a statement going into the homestretch of a schedule the Royal Knights may have cornered the market on coming off loud and clear.

Royal took Kiona-Benton out to the woodshed and left them there in a 11-0 rout yesterday in Royal City.

“Ki-Be was a weakened side due to missing a number of players fighting schedule conflicts,” Royal coach Jens Jensen said. “They didn’t ask many questions of our defense, and generally we were too strong for them. Our boys played very well and looked very organized today.”

Royal’s Shaq Ledesma, Luis Esquivel, Adam Martinez, and Christian Guerrero all scored two goals apiece for Royal (8-2, 3-1), which outshot Ki Be 19-1.

Luis Gallardo, Jesus Ceja, and Adam Nava also put home a tally apiece for the Knights.
