HAYDEN - The Hayden City Council will have two public hearings at its regular meeting on Tuesday, and will hear from auditors about its financial reports for 2009.

Magnuson, McHugh & Co. PA will present to the city the independent auditors' report the firm just completed on the city's financial statements.

The Coeur d'Alene firm also will express an opinion on the statements, which cover the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2009, said Kris Rose, director of administrative services for the city.

The two public hearings include one concerning a proposed sewer capacity fee increase and one on a planned flood damage prevention ordinance.

The Hayden Area Regional Sewer Board has increased its sewer capacity fee, an increase that will be passed on to the city.

As a result, the city is looking to increase its sewer capacity fee accordingly.

Customers pay a one-time sewer capacity fee based on the number of gallons expected to be used, and it is charged at the time of connection to the city's sewer system, usually when a building permit is issued, said Lisa Key, city community development director.

The city also will hold a public hearing on a flood damage prevention ordinance.

Key said the city must adopt a flood damage prevention ordinance to be eligible for federal emergency funds should an emergency occur in the city, including any floods, and so residents in the city will be able to obtain flood insurance.

Key said there are about seven properties in the city that fall within a 100-year floodplain.
