Ann Marie Greco, 76, passed away after a courageous struggle with dementia on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Lake View Care Center in Bigfork. She was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Angelo and Mary (Iadevia) Greco. Her childhood was shared by her sister, Diane, and her brother, Sonny. Some of their fondest memories were spent at Newport Beach, clamming and also enjoying the ocean at Cape Cod. She graduated from St. Xavier High School and later began corresponding with a U.S. Airman in France. At the age of 21, Ann went to France and married Joseph Vitovec, and they had a daughter, JoAnn, who was born there. As a military wife, she travelled extensively and created a home wherever she went. Ann accepted people of all ages and cultures. Because of her love of life and beauty she impacted many. She had a generosity of spirit and a heart that made her a joy to be with. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning her Bachelor s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Ann had an enthusiasm for learning that was contagious, and was always welcoming her fellow students into her home to discuss their many cultures and backgrounds. Upon returning to Rhode Island, Ann showed her creativity by becoming a window dresser. Then on to RISDI (Rhode Island School of Design Museum) as a guard. The museum was Ann s second home, where she was surrounded by the great works of Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Renoir and others. She loved her time there and enjoyed her friends and co-workers. Everyone knew of her love for art and books. Upon retiring from RISDI, Ann moved to Montana to be near her daughter. She quickly made new friends in Montana and became a foster grandparent, joined the Red Hat Society and enjoyed all the Flathead Valley had to offer. She always spoke with fondness of her friends and family in Rhode Island. She will be missed by many. Her love for life inspired others to see the beauty around them. She was and always will be a bright light. Ann was always there to lend a helping hand and was known for her generous heart. She truly knew how to accept others for who they were. Ann will be missed by her daughter JoAnn; numerous nieces and nephews; and also many friends from around the country and the world. Mass of Christian Burial for Ann will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, at St. Matthew s Catholic Church with Father Vic Langhans as Celebrant.
