ST. IGNATIUS - The Mission-Arlee-Charlo softball team split games last week.
With a 9-3 win over Deer Lodge, the Bulldogs saw their bats at work with six hits.
"We had a slow start," head coach Susan Weaselhead said. "We were hitting but a couple were going right to their defenders."
To ignite a spark, Weaselhead inserted freshman Mahalia Hendren at the plate.
"Every time I put her in, she makes plays," Weaselhead said. "She does really well."
The Bulldogs were able to score four in the third inning and five in the seventh for the win.
"We played really well," Weaselhead said.
On the mound, junior Kyla Olson notched 11 strikeouts while only walking three through strong winds.
"She was consistent," Weaselhead said. "She pulled it through."
The day before, the Bulldogs played Loyola, but lost 7-2. Statistics were unavailable.
Weaselhead said her team couldn't seem to get its bats going.
"We had a couple of errors that did us in," she said. "They had a good pitcher. We just couldn't get our bats going and by the time we did, it was too late."
MAC faces a busy schedule with three games in three days this week. The Bulldogs travel to Florence tonight, host Plains tomorrow and travel to Drummond on Saturday.
"We've been really consistent in practice," Weaselhead said. "I think the girls are ready."
