It's always nice to be the team victor overall at track meets, but for St. Regis that will be a hard feat to accomplish. With only four boys running and one girl, the team strives to focus on bettering themselves as individuals, striving to beat their old times and solidify quicker ones.

At Hot Springs on Thursday, Juliana Spencer ran in her two events, the 1,600 and 3,200. At Plains last week, she finished the 1,600 with a time of 6:21, well enough for fifth place. However, at Hot Springs, she set a new record for the season with a time of 6:06.54. This time around, it was a second place finish, just behind Superior rival Kinzie Cooper. Cooper beat Spencer by a mere second, finishing 6:05.26.

In the 3,200, Spencer ended up in first place with a time of 13:34.38, two huge minutes ahead of second place finisher Shay Lloyd from Noxon. However, she ran better last week at Plains with a faster time of 13:20.06 where she took second place. Spencer finished in the overall standings with 18 points, ahead of Two Eagle River.

On the boys' of things, the team finished with a total of 24 points ahead of Two Eagle River. The boys are also distance runners. This time around, however, Thomas Spencer also had a placing in the high jump. Spencer took fifth place ahead of rival RJ Frederick from Superior with a height of 5-8. Running in the 1,600 and 3,200 races, Spencer took a third place win and second place win. He had a third place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 5:24.92 and took second in the 3,200 with a time of 12:00.34. In the 3,200 he shaved seven seconds off of his time from last week in Plains, 12:07.72. However, Spencer had a better time of 5:19 last week in the 1,600.

James Jennings also ran in the same two events. Jennings garnered two fourth place wins. In the 1,600 he finished with a time of 5:45.60 and in the 3,200 he crossed the finish line with a time of 12:51.22.

The Tigers are going to be in Superior on Saturday for the Superior Invitational. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

Alberton sends one to state

Twelve Alberton Panthers competed at divisional track over the past weekend, but only one ended up performing well enough in order to stamp a ticket to state. Jake Thompson will represent the Alberton Panthers at the state track meet this weekend in an event that Coach Rachel Clevenger said they weren't expecting. Thompson, who is a sophomore, took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-7.

St. Regis students get pleasant surprise

St. Regis students received a surprise this week after they finished taking their semester tests on Monday. Yearbooks are a creative outlet that commemorates an important time in your life. While making them is hard work, the result is a fun way to document life and hold onto good memories. On Monday, thanks to the support of businesses from around the county, last year’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen all received a free year book. The seniors of class 2010 also received a free book.
