Elementary students host a spring concert for parents and community.

With warm weather outside, the Superior Elementary students welcomed parents inside to the gym on Monday, April 26 at 2 p.m. for an "An Elementary Spring Concert." Parents were racing across the parking lot from work at the last minute to catch of glimpse of their child.

The elementary divided into two groups, kindergarten through second grade and third through sixth grade, and the students performed two sets of musical numbers.

Dinosaurs were the stars in kindergarten through second grade's performance of John Jacobson's and Mark Brymer's DinoStars!

After singing the opening number, Madelynn Pandis welcomed guests to the performance saying that they should feel lucky to be present for such a show as "most of us are on our way to becoming a fossil." Throughout the performance, dino judges Emma Hopwood, Jacob Lapinski and Kyler Francis scored each performance in an American Idol-stylized fashion. The students sang "The Raptor's Rap," a foot tapping beat that repeated the catchy phrase, "We're raptors, yo yo, we're raptors."

The "dinosaur" singers then sang a few more numbers including the "Dinosaur Two-Step" and the oldest dance number on Earth, the "Dinosaur Rock."

Clay Donally thanked the parents for coming reminding everyone to "be friends with those who come to your door, especially if they are a dinosaur."

The third through sixth graders took the stage next and performed numbers from On The Radio, written by John Jacobson and John Higgins. The performance featured early favorites and talked about the use of the radio and its involvement in people's daily lives. They sang six numbers including "Ain't We Got Fun?"-a swing-dance tune, big smiles spread across every face as the tune "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" came on, which had parents and grandparents dancing in their seat. Favorites such as Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog" also resonated well with the audience. And of course, the best songs are the ones we dance too and so the students performed a rendition of "Footloose."

After the singing numbers, the elementary band took the stage and played "Hard Rock Blues," "Ode to Joy" and "Hot Fudge Sunday." The audience was thrilled and gave a big round of applause to the singers and band members when all had finished.
