Cd'A Tennis holding junior tourney
COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Tennis Association is holding a junior tournament at Cherry Hill Park, starting today at 9 a.m. The second round will be on Wednesday morning with the finals Thursday at 9 a.m.
Around 60 athletes will be participating.
NWL playoff dates announced
SPOKANE - The Spokane Indians will host Games 2 and 3 of the Northwest League first round playoffs at Avista Stadium on Sept. 7 and 8. The series will be a best-of-three format. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m.

n The Indians received another Texas Rangers first-round pick as Kellin Deglan was assigned to the team on Monday. He was the 22nd overall pick in this year's MLB draft, and the second catcher selected. He joins fellow first-round pick Jake Skole, an outfielder previously assigned to Spokane.
Keo on Thorpe watch list
MOSCOW - University of Idaho safety Shiloh Keo is one of 35 defensive backs nationwide on the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List. The Thorpe Award, named in honor of the legendary Jim Thorpe, recognizes on-field performance, athletic ability and character.
Keo, a defensive captain as sophomore and a special teams captain this fall, is 11th on the Vandals' all-time total tackles list with 293. Last fall, he had the second highest total tackles tally with 113 in the Western Athletic Conference. He led the league in 2009 in solo stops with 72.
WSU football single-game tickets on sale

Eastern preseason practice to begin
CHENEY - A squad of 90 players will report on Saturday as Eastern Washington University begins preseason practices for the 2010 football season.
After a day of conditioning on Sunday, the team will practice together for the first time on Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern will practice in pads for the first time on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m., followed by its first of six days of two-a-day practices on Aug. 13.
The Eagles, who have advanced to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs four of the last six years, will scrimmage twice before the team's season opener on Sept. 2 at Nevada. The first scrimmage will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at approximately 3:30 p.m., and a second scrimmage will take place at the same time exactly a week later on Aug. 25.
Both scrimmages are free and open to the public, and will take place on the EWU practice fields as work continues to convert Woodward Field (to be re-named Roos Field upon project completion) to a red Sprinturf surface.
