CAST team places third

SWIMMING
The Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team took third place at the Inland Empire Long Course Championships July 31-Aug. 1 at Witter Pool in Spokane.
The Tri-City Channel Cats won the meet and the Spokane Waves Aquatic Team was second.
Bryce Kananowicz, 14, of CAST won the male 13-14 age group high point award and Cole Curtis, 10, earned the same title for the boys 9-10 age group. Kjirsten Magnuson, 17, won the age 15 and over 100- and 200-meter freestyle and Peyton Bowen, 14, earned the top spot in the 200 breaststroke for 13-14 year olds.
The Crocs also won the spirit award, voted on by the head coach of each team.
SOCCER
Coeur d'Alene Sting U14 boys: The Coeur d'Alene Sting under-14 boys (Thompson) won the River City Cup July 30-Aug. 1 at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane.
In their first game, the Sting defeated River City (Spokane) 6-0. Jack Barrett scored a hat trick and Pierre Schrambach added two goals.
The Sting tied Spokane Elite 1-1. Devin Kohles scored the Sting's only goal with an assist from Gunnar Skindlov.
The Sting then went on to beat the Storm FC (Cheney) 1-0. Pierre Schrambach scored with a header on a cross from Dylan Flolo.
In the championship game, the Sting again defeated River City 6-0. Ryan Swallow scored with an assist from Gunnar Skindlov. Dylan Flolo scored on a corner kick from Kade Murphree. Pierre Schrambach scored with an assist from Matt Hilbert. Dillon Dunteman scored with an assist from Kade Murphree. Devin Kohles scored on an assist from Dylan Flolo. Gunnar Skindlov scored the last goal of the game unassisted.
Brennan Barber and Chase Sanchez earned kudos for their play on defense, and goalkeepers Garrett Boyce and Mitchell Kamphaus teamed to allow just one goal in the tournament.
North Idaho Avalanche: The Avalanche U18 boys went 2-1 at the River City Cup last weekend in Spokane.
Local members of the team include Hunter Cayton (Post Falls) and Andrew Bare, Taran Loper, Cordell Reed and Kyle Lamson (Coeur d'Alene). Lamson scored two goals in a 3-0 win over the River City Rapids.
SOFTBALL
Wildfire tryouts: The Northwest Wildfire has scheduled an open tryout for its four select teams for Saturday at Finucane Park in Hayden.
Tryouts for the 10-and-under and 12 teams are from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; tryouts for the 14U team is from 12:30-2 p.m.; and tryouts for the 16U team is from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
