PARTIES: Division wide and growing

Again we have an apparently well-reasoned yet badly mistaken letter from Jeff Bourget.

I do believe Mr. Hollingsworth went a tad too far in his presentation but I also believe his basic positions were sound. You seem to take a very simplistic view of voting and party affiliation. You say it’s very easy to answer why a Republican would vote for a Democrat. You are badly mistaken.

A true Republican would never vote for a Democrat any more than a Catholic would vote for a muslim for pope. We are no longer in a world of minor disagreements. That world is long gone thanks to the Democrats veering so sharply to the left.

Unfortunately, very few people seem to realize that but I believe Mr. Hollingsworth does — and so do I. You also need to take a refresher course in the power structure in Congress. I suggest you begin by reviewing the Jim Jeffords situation a few years ago. It is no simple matter when a Republican defects.
