Sean Rodriguez and B.J. Upton hit three-run homers as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4 on Tuesday night at St. Petersburg, Fla., winning for the 10th time in 11 games and taking over the AL East lead.

Rodriguez homered in the first inning. Upton put the Rays ahead 6-3 with his tiebreaking drive in the seventh.

Jeff Niemann allowed three runs and eight hits over seven innings. Tampa Bay moved one game ahead of the New York Yankees.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 2: Ricky Romero baffled the suddenly slumping Yankees for the second time this season, and free-swinging Toronto belted four more home runs in a romp at New York.

Tigers 2-7, White Sox 12-1: Jeremy Bonderman allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings for his first win in two months, Brennan Boesch and Johnny Damon each drove in two runs, and host Detroit earned a split of a day-night doubleheader with a victory over Chicago.

Chicago won the first game as Juan Pierre homered for the first time in almost two years.

Red Sox 3, Indians 1: Mike Lowell hit a two-run homer on the first pitch he saw after coming off the disabled list, Josh Beckett dominated for eight innings and Boston beat visiting Cleveland.

Orioles 6, Angels 3: Luke Scott hit a two-run homer and Josh Bell added a two-run double for his first major league RBIs in a big sixth inning, and Baltimore rallied past visiting Los Angeles to make manager Buck Showalter a winner in his debut.
