Zetta Grandma G Gilman

Grandma G, 96, Passed away Aug. 2, 2010 in Coeur d’Alene. She was
born in Guthrie, Okla., to Ernest and Grace Ellis, on July 29,1914. Zetta
completed the family with her brother, Horace. Her dad Ernest died in
an accident and her mother moved the family to Santa Monica, Calif.,
to pursue a teaching career to raise the family.
Grandma G attended Venice High School where she met Wayne Gilman.
Wayne and Zetta began dating on Oct. 14, 1932. Their first date was
following Venice High’s homecoming football game. He took her out to
dinner at a place in Ocean Park.
Grandma had been investigating the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints and Wayne had the privilege of baptizing her prior to their
marriage on Jan. 13, 1935 in Santa Monica. Four days later, on Jan.
17, they were sealed “for time and eternity” in the Salt Lake Temple.
Grandma G and Grandpa G raised their family in Southern California,
Utah and Auburn, Calif. They retired in 1971 and traveled until 1977
when, as retirees, they moved to Post Falls and then served a mission
in England. Grandma G was deeply involved in church activities
throughout her life.
Grandma made many special cards for family and friends. She was a
great pie maker, she loved a variety of animals, especially the
neighbor’s dogs.
Grandma was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is
survived by her husband of more than 75 years, Wayne; a daughter
Paddy (Fred), two sons, Larry (Sharon) and Roy (Char), 9 Grandchildren,
15 Great Grandchildren and 4 1/2 Great Great Grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to any SPCA or the
animal shelter.
Services for Grandma G will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at 10:30
a.m. with viewing prior, from 9-10 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 1824 E 16th
Ave., Post Falls.
English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls has been entrusted with the final
arrangements.
