MOSES LAKE — The Port of Moses Lake is moving toward buying a new fire truck for $663,814 to replace its aging 22-year-old vehicle.

MOSES LAKE - The Port of Moses Lake is moving toward buying a new fire truck for $663,814 to replace its aging 22-year-old vehicle.

Port firefighters are required to respond to aircraft emergencies at the Grant County International Airport, which is located on port property.

The apparent low bid of $663,814 was submitted by the Minnesota-based Rosenbauer, according to Craig Baldwin, the port's executive manager.

The bid amount included the price of the truck, auxiliary equipment, state sales tax and Motor Vehicle Excise Tax.

The second bid of $693,527 was submitted by Oshkosh.

Six companies showed interest in turning in bids, but only the two above businesses followed through with their bid proposals.

The port provides 5 percent of the cost with a local match. The remaining 95 percent is funded by a FAA grant.

The port met Friday in order to meet the FAA's timeline for this year's grants and move toward accepting the grant in a couple of weeks.

After bid documentation is reviewed, a recommendation about the bid is expected at a future port meeting.

Ben Ormond, the port's senior fire captain, commented about the benefits of the new truck, technology and equipment for fire fighting protection.
