Midwest City wins twice,
captures Legion title
SPOKANE - Dalton Bernardi went 3 for 5 and drove in three runs as Midwest City, Okla., beat Eden Prairie, Minn., 10-1 in the championship game of the American Legion World Series on Tuesday night at Avista Stadium.
In the first title game Tuesday, Josh Halbert went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored as Midwest City defeated Eden Prairie 11-6, handing Eden Prairie its first loss of the tournament and forcing a second championship game.
Prep soccer jamboree
today at Lake City
COEUR d'ALENE - Post Falls, Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene and Lake City will gather today for boys and girls soccer jamborees at Lake City High.
Boys and girls will play at the same time, on two fields. Each "match" will consist of one 40-minute half.
The jamboree is a fundraiser for Idaho's Youth Endowment for Activities, and no passes will be honored.
Lake City plays Sandpoint at 2 p.m., followed by Coeur d'Alene vs. Sandpoint at 2:50, Lake City vs. Post Falls at 3:40 and Coeur d'Alene vs. Post Falls at 4:30.

football jamboree
POST FALLS - Sandpoint, Priest River and Post Falls will gather for a football jamboree Aug. 26 at Post Falls High.
The junior varsity jamboree is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the varsity jamboree at 6.
No passes will be accepted for the YEA fundraiser. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students for the varsity jamboree, and $3 for adults and $1 for students for the JV jamboree.

Banquet and Auction Thursday
COEUR d'ALENE - Washington State football great and College Football Hall of Fame member Rueben Mayes will be the keynote speaker at the 48th annual Cougar Sports Banquet and Auction, presented by Sterling Savings Bank, Thursday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.
In addition to Mayes, featured speakers include WSU President Elson S. Floyd, WSU athletic director Bill Moos, and all Cougar head coaches including Paul Wulff (football), Ken Bone (men's basketball), June Daugherty (women's basketball), and Donnie Marbut (baseball).
WSU legends Jack Thompson, Bobo Brayton, and Matt Kegel will also be in attendance.

Zags to appear five times
on ESPN in WCC play
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga's mens basketball team will have five West Coast Conference games televised on the ESPN family of stations during the upcoming season according to the schedule released Tuesday by WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.
The Bulldogs will open the WCC schedule with three straight home games - Jan. 8 against Portland, Jan. 13 against Pepperdine and Jan. 15 against Loyola Marymount. Gonzaga will play five of its first seven WCC contests at home, and conclude the WCC regular season on the road Feb. 24 at Saint Mary's and Feb. 26 at San Diego.
The first ESPN appearance for the Bulldogs in WCC play will be at Santa Clara on Jan. 20 on ESPNU, with the time still to be determined. The Bulldogs will have four WCC games televised on ESPN2 - Jan. 27 at home against Saint Mary's, Feb. 3 at Portland, Feb. 10 at Loyola Marymount and Feb. 24 at Saint Mary's. All four of the ESPN2 games will begin at 8 p.m. PST.
Gonzaga also has a minimum of seven other games to be televised on the ESPN family. Gonzaga's home game Nov. 16 against San Diego State as part of the College Basketball Experience regional round of games will be televised on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. PST and be a part of ESPN's 24-Hour Marathon. Both Gonzaga games in the CBE championship round from Kansas City, Mo., will be televised, including the first game against Kansas State on Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. PST on ESPN2. The consolation game (ESPNU) and championship game (ESPN2) the next day will also be televised.
The Battle in Seattle from KeyArena Dec. 4 has the Bulldogs facing Illinois on ESPN at 2:15 p.m. PST. The Bulldogs and Baylor will meet in The Showcase in Dallas on Dec. 18 on ESPN2 at 1:30 p.m. PST.
Gonzaga returns home Dec. 22 to face Xavier in another ESPN2 battle at 8 p.m. PST, hosts Oklahoma State on New Year's Eve on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. PST and entertains Memphis Feb. 5 in the Spokane Arena in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Classic at 1 p.m. PST on either ESPN or ESPN2.
The WCC tournament semifinals will be shown on ESPN2 on Sunday, March 6 and the championship game shown on ESPN on Monday, March 7 from The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
The remainder of Gonzaga's television schedule and game times will be announced as they become finalized.

Chiefs acquire defenseman
from Prince George
SPOKANE - The Spokane Chiefs acquired defenseman Bruin McDonald from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a conditional sixth round draft selection in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.
The 18-year-old McDonald has played 107 games in parts of three seasons with the Cougars, including a career-high 53 last year when he registered three goals and 10 points. The Coquitlam, British Columbia, native was originally a seventh round selection in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.
McDonald will join the Chiefs at their annual fall camp on Aug. 26 at the Spokane Arena. Camp, and the Red-White Scrimmage on Aug. 29 at 1 p.m.
