John Louis Montreuil born Feb. 3, 1922, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at home in Dalton Gardens.

At the age of 3 years his parents moved to Los Angles, Calif., where he attended Catholic schools. All his life he lived his Catholic Christian faith to the hilt. In 1946 he took his bride Evelyn Moormann in the holy sacrament of matrimony. They lived 64 wonderful years together and received countless blessings from God; the best were six beautiful children who survive him today with their mother, Evelyn. They are Stephanie Jean Montreuil Brand, Kenneth Damian Montreuil, Paul Henry Montreuil, Michelle Marie Montreuil Hogeweide, Christopher Alan Montreuil and Tamara Ann Montreuil Perfect. John and Evelyn have seen the grandchildren come into the fifth generation. Now John is in the bosom of our Eternal Father and we rejoice for him but miss him very much. Following is testimonials from two daughters-in-law and a nephew...

A very great man died this morning. My beloved Father-in-Law John Montreuil went to be with our Lord... after living a long and happy life. He was a loving husband to his wife, Eie, for 64 years; and a great father and grandfather to his six children and 17 grandchildren; as well as 16 great-grandkids and two great-great-grandchildren. Born in 1922, he saw much happen to this world in his 88 years, but he held steadfast in his faith and is now receiving his reward in Heaven. We will miss you so much, John... we'll miss your sweet smile, your loving embrace and will fondly remember everything about you... including your love of peanuts and a good old movie! God Bless You and Keep You. - By Wendy Montreuil

Kind of sad but glad at the same time... he is now free of his earthly body that was betraying him... and now putting on his heavenly one with Our Father... what a joyous thing for him... and sad for us that we are missing him... - By Stephanie Zenger Montreuil

Aug. 19, 2010, at 2:13 p.m. My deepest sympathy to you and the Montreuil family for the loss of their loving patriarch John Montreuil. Uncle Johnny was a man I admired second only to my grandfather for his kindness, his laugh which I will never forget, and his patience and pride he put into family, his work and home projects. To Aunt Evie, I offer my heartfelt sorrow in the loss of your husband, prayers that you will find peace and strength in the wonderful family of sons and daughters that are yours and Johnny's living epitaph. To Stephanie, Kenny, Paul, Chris, Michelle and Tammy, may you find comfort in remembering a great man and father. I will never forget Uncle Johnny. I am richer for having known him. - By Mark Rossmiller

John also worked for the Coeur d'Alene Press as a printer for 38 years.
