MOSES LAKE - Tracking down special award winners at the Grant County Fair isn't always easy, but it can be done.

It has to be that way, explains Dick Pulis, fair board association chairman.

Otherwise, it's no surprise for the winners. On Thursday, they received ribbons for their efforts in fair theme decorating, a sweepstakes honor and general fair board association honors.

Sometimes, the surprise is whether or not you find the winner at exactly the right time.

"You just take a chance sometimes," Pulis reasoned.

Pulis and fair board members Lucinda West, Greg Kasparek, Joan Prchal, Laura Cobb, Sherri Leighton and Janice Widmer took their chance to find and photograph the winners.

Clad in pink fair board shirts and driving golf carts, the group set off.

The first stop was at the baked goods/arts and crafts building to find Dani Bolyard, the baking department superintendent.

She was quickly found and given a fair theme decorating award.

In the same building, Samantha Amey was awarded with a decorating honor. Amey and her daughter, Courtney Ingram, supervised an arts and crafts area for kids.

A sweepstakes award for Moses Lake High School's metal shop class was left at their display with a note attached because no one could be found.

Next was an award for Davis Carnivals, located on the other side of the fairgrounds.

Owner Geraldine Davis and Manager Laine Chamberlin were on hand to receive their fair board association board of directors award.

The last award was presented to Story Barn operators Gene and Starlene McDaniel. They work in Child Evangelism Fellowship and provided free stories to kids during the fair.
