Robert W. (Bob) Howard went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, after a one-year battle with cancer.

Bob was a lifetime resident of Kootenai County. Born on Oct. 10, 1938, to William S. (Bud) Howard and Frances J. (Wilson) Howard in Coeur d'Alene, he graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1956, and then attended North Idaho Jr. College until 1958. He joined the U.S. Air Force and became active in October 1959, served in Korea and then stationed in Montana where he met and married Donna M. Olsen in 1962. Upon his Honorable Discharge in 1964, he came home to Coeur d'Alene to start his family. Bob worked for his father and a couple other jobs until settling in at the Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood Plant in Spokane, Wash., as an electrician. He worked his way to Electronic Supervisor. He retired from Kaiser in 1994.

In 1970, Bob moved his family from Coeur d'Alene to Worley and started a small farm where they raised their three sons. Bob and Donna divorced in 1984. Bob met Leona Ellis in 1988 and they married in 1991. They spent their years together traveling and Snow Birding in Arizona. Bob enjoyed the warmer winters in the south. He ran around in a T-shirt while others there wore coats. Bob and Leona divorced in 2006. Bob never lost his friendships with either Donna or Leona.

Bob's hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling and working on project cars. He was always there to help family, friends and neighbors in need.

Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Margery A. Howard; mother Frances J. Howard; brother Philip J. Howard and father William S. (Bud) Howard.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Rick Robert (Vicki) Howard, Kevin Jon (Lorinda) Howard and Warren Earl (Melissa) Howard; 10 grandchildren and extended family across the U.S.

Bob will always be loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is in charge of the arrangements.
