Affair with fair fare is finally here

That year-long craving for elephant ears can finally be satisfied.

The gates to the North Idaho Fair and Rodeo opened at 9 a.m. this morning, kicking off five days of musical performances, 4-H competitions, exhibits and more.

Today the fair features old favorites like Mutton Bustin — tots riding sheep, for the uninitiated — a KCSD Canine Demo and a Caruso's Sandwich eating contest.

But there's still much more to look forward to, like Coeur d'Alene Casino Tribal Dancers on Thursday, hypnotist Terry Stokes performing every day (interested, Cliff Harris?), and a wine tasting on Saturday.

And of course, food booths will offer myriad treats throughout.

The fair closes tonight at 10. The carnival runs from noon to midnight.

Tickets are $8 for adults 13 and over, $7 for seniors 60 and over, and $ for kids 6 to 12. Children 5 and under enter free. Parking is $3, and grandstand tickets are $5.

A schedule of events at the fair is available at http://www.northidahofair.com/.
