Lois Adeline Van Setten, 90

Lois Adeline Van Setten, 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. She was born on Aug. 5, 1920, to Christian and Clara (Strand) Swenson. She grew up in the Farmington area and graduated from Choteau High School in 1938. She then attended Normal School in Dillon, receiving a two-year elementary teaching degree. She taught in the rural Fort Benton area and in Bynum. Lois and John Van Setten were married in 1946. They had a dairy farm on the Greenfield Bench and did this until 1978, when they retired and moved into the town of Fairfield. In the year 2000, she moved to Kalispell to the Buffalo Hill Terrace, where she lived the rest of her life. Lois enjoyed gardening, crafts, knitting, quilting, dancing and camping. She and John enjoyed taking their grandchildren on camping trips. They all still have afghans and quilts, compliments of Grandma Lois. She also enjoyed working with others on quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2000; her parents; a sister, Dorothy Van Setten; and two brothers, Lawrence and Morris Swenson. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Caldwell and husband, Cliff, of Columbia Falls, and Carol Dahley and husband, Randy, of Lolo; grandchildren, Stacy Caldwell, Michael Caldwell, Kelly Palmer, Heather Amdahl and Trevor Dahley; and great-grandchildren, Azlyn Caldwell, Madeline Palmer, Van Palmer, Sabrina Fenton and Sterling Amdahl. Funeral services will be held for Lois at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow the services at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfield.
