HAYDEN - The owners of Harmony House Assisted Living, in Hayden, have opened a third home for residents after completing construction on a new 6,300-square-foot house for $650,000.

Business owners Jenifer and Graham Christensen said the home was completed last month and has 16 rooms for residents. Fifteen of the rooms already are occupied.

The residents are at least 18 years old and are living with mental illnesses, brain injury or developmental disabilities.

Jenifer Christensen said Harmony House seeks to provide structured living for residents, including help with medication. Each facility has around-the-clock staff members.

Even with the services provided, "We want them to be as independent as possible."

The Christensens are paid through a combination of Social Security and Medicaid for the cost of the residents' room, board and services provided.

The new home is at 9941 N. Maple St. on about two-thirds of an acre, adjacent to another Harmony House facility at 9967 N. Maple St., which also has 16 beds. A 13-bed home is located at 454 W. Lacey Ave., in Hayden.

Jenifer Christensen said she and her husband decided to have the third home built because of demand for assisted-living housing in the Coeur d'Alene area.

Harmony House currently employs 21 people.

Williamson Johnson Co., of Coeur d'Alene, was the general contractor on the building project, and Scott Rice was the architect, she said. The home construction was paid for with a small business loan from Mountain West Bank.

Harmony House has been around for 10 years, and the Christensens became the owners in 2005. Jerry and Diane Shriner, of Coeur d'Alene, were the previous owners, she said.
