MOSES LAKE — A 13-year-old boy fired several rounds at Grant County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday.

Two deputies fired back.

No one was hit, but two patrol cars were struck by .22 rounds, according to Grant County Sheriff Frank DeTrolio.

Deputies were summoned to a home on North Frontage Road Northeast, about 10 miles east of Moses Lake, for a report of domestic violence.

“The caller advised that her 13-year old boy was throwing rocks at her vehicle and (she) needed assistance from law enforcement,” DeTrolio stated.

As two deputies arrived, the boy began shooting toward the officers with a .22 caliber rifle.

After the officers fired back, the juvenile surrendered. He was arrested at gunpoint and booked into juvenile detention.

An investigation is being conducted by the Columbia Basin Investigative Team, commanded by Capt. Dave Sands of the Moses Lake police. The team is comprised of detectives from the Washington State Patrol;, Grant and Adams counties sheriffs’ offices, Othello, Quincy and Moses Lake police departments.

“The names of the deputies involved are being withheld until the investigative team has completed its officer-involved shooting investigation,” stated DeTrolio. “Both deputies are on administrative leave with pay during the investigation.”
