SANDPOINT — A long range shooting barrage by Sandpoint’s Jackson Olin and Cole Fuhrman keyed a 19-0 third quarter run, leading the Bulldogs to a convincing 58-29 season-opening win over Timberlake in nonleague boys basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.
Olin finished with a game-high 21 points to lead the Bulldogs (1-0), including 5-7 from beyond the arc, and Fuhrman drained three third quarter 3-pointers, including two off the glass, to key a 24 point quarter and help blow the game open. Olin, who finished 8-11 from the floor, scored nine straight points to open the second half.
“That’s a big night from Jackson with limited shots,” said Sandpoint head coach Tyler Haynes. “We have some kids that can shoot.”
Brandon Hawkins had a solid all-around game, stuffing the stat sheet with three points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, Blaine Shultz added 11 points, seven rebounds and some great hustle, Jacob Carothers grabbed eight rebounds and Tanner Williams added six points for the new-look Bulldogs.
“At one point we had five guys on the floor that had never played varsity, and it felt good. The new guys have picked things up fast and the vets have showed them how it’s done,” said Haynes. “Our intensity was outstanding. Timberlake plays hard and physical, but we played for 32 minutes.”
Cooper Simpson led the Tigers (1-0) with 14 points in defeat.
