Shots don’t fall for Bison against height-loaded North Idaho

PABLO - The SKC Bison had a tough opponent. When North Idaho College rolled into Pablo on Tuesday, Nov. 16, they had the No. 3 ranking in the country for junior colleges.

"They see where they need to be at," Bison head coach Zachary Conko-Camel said.

NIC defeated the Bison 96-73, as poor shooting hampered SKC but they showed improvement over their Nov. 2 game against the Cardinals, a 124-89 loss in Coeur d'Alene. In that first game, Dennis Sangrey had 29 points for SKC, including nine three-pointers. The Bison tried the same outside strategy, tak-ing 35 shots from behind the three-point arc, hitting 11 of them.

"We had a bunch of good shots, we just didn't make those shots," Conko-Camel said. "They were really focusing on Dennis."

With seven kids over 6'5" on the Cardinals' roster, the Bison had to adjust for height, but dealt with the pressure for the most part. It was just a matter of getting the ball into the hoop.

"If we had hit half the shots we'd missed it would have been good to see how the two teams would have done," Conko-Camel said.

Jason Enright led the team with 12 points, while Marvin Lewis and Sonny Eppinette each chipped in 11 points apiece. Sangrey had 10 points in the game.

"I feel better than where we were at last year," Conko-Camel said.

NIC's Jake Owsley had 18 points and five rebounds to lead the Cardinals as they won their seventh straight.

"I thought Jake came out well tonight," NIC coach Jared Phay told the Couer d'Alene Press. "We knew he had it in him, but he really showed his potential tonight."

The Bison now turn their attention to a particularly busy part of their schedule.
