Betty Lou Reksten, 86

Betty Lou Reksten, 86, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, after an extended illness. Born Betty Lou Koehler in Salt Lake City in 1924, she lived in many states before her parents, Louise and Paul, settled in Polson. She graduated from Thompson Falls High School and worked for the Pasadena, Calif., police department before returning to Montana. She married Don Reksten in 1949. She loved bowling and playing bridge, pinochle and bingo. Her husband died in 2002. She is survived by three children, Vicki Haker of Berlin, Patty Reksten of Portland, and Donald Reksten of Kalispell. She also has grandchildren living in Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland. At her request, there will be no service.

Climate change awards announced

Climate Smart Glacier Country announced its Climate Smart Champions during a ceremony at the Earth Day celebration April 21 in Whitefish. Awards were presented to businesses, youth and an individual who are leaders in building local solutions to climate change challenges.
