Alberton wrestlers claim titles

Alberton native Cody Ishler who co-ops with the Frenchtown Broncs wrestling program was one of five Broncs who captured an individual title at the Superior Invitational on Saturday.
Frenchtown had seven wrestlers in the finals alone in Superior on Saturday. Four others joined Ishler and claimed individual titles in their respective events.
“It’ll be interesting to find out how many pins we had exactly,” Coach Bob Henderson said. “Pins are vital in the number of points you get and we emphasize them a lot in practice.”
Ishler wrestled at 119 pounds and quickly outwitted his first opponent on the mat in his first match. As he moved through the ranks, he met some stronger wrestlers, but was able to adapt and fix mistakes.
“Ever since he was a freshman, Cody has had the ability while on the mat to make corrections and to fix mistakes,” Henderson said. “You can talk to him a bit afterwards and he’s quick to make adjustments.”
The ability to make adjustments came in handy on Saturday for Ishler. Henderson said though Ishler met some quality wrestlers, he was always ready for them.
“He wrestles very well and he’s very powerful,” Henderson said.
Henderson said that they always enjoy the Superior Invitational.
“They always have a nice tournament,” Henderson said.
At Superior, Frenchtown scored 204 points to finish ahead of the rest of the field. Cody Lemons won a title at 112, Zach Westre at 135, Brad Nordahl at 152 and Devante Wilson, heavyweight.
While Ishler was wrestling in Superior, Roy Schutter, another Alberton wrestler, was in Hamilton wrestling with the Frenchtown junior-varsity squad. At 112 pounds, Schutter won his weight class at the tournament.
“My assistant coach told me that Roy wrestled very well and was very happy with him,” Henderson said. “He said that was one of the best times he’d seen Roy wrestle.”
Schutter and Ishler also wrestled on Friday night in Frenchtown against Cut Bank and Browning. Henderson said that the two wrestled very well. He said that the other teams were really only partial teams.

Alberton sends one to state
Twelve Alberton Panthers competed at divisional track over the past weekend, but only one ended up performing well enough in order to stamp a ticket to state. Jake Thompson will represent the Alberton Panthers at the state track meet this weekend in an event that Coach Rachel Clevenger said they weren't expecting. Thompson, who is a sophomore, took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-7.
St. Regis students get pleasant surprise
St. Regis students received a surprise this week after they finished taking their semester tests on Monday. Yearbooks are a creative outlet that commemorates an important time in your life. While making them is hard work, the result is a fun way to document life and hold onto good memories. On Monday, thanks to the support of businesses from around the county, last year’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen all received a free year book. The seniors of class 2010 also received a free book.
