POLSON - Columbia Falls edged Polson in a tightly-contested Northwestern A wrestling dual on Tuesday.

The Wildcats had two pins and two decisions go in their favor while picking up four forfeits en route to a slim 43-33 victory over the Pirates.

"That was a good opener. It was a great meet for the fans to watch. It went well other than the score," Bob Owen, entering his 35th season as Polson head coach, said.

Adam Richardson and Josh Folsom each earned pins for Columbia Falls while Justin Whitman won by major decision.

Polson, the defending conference champs, rebounded with an impressive victory over Whitefish in a second conference dual following Columbia Falls on Tuesday.

The Pirates soundly defeated the Bulldogs 78-9 thanks in part to 10 pins (Lucas Polk, Dylan Moll, Craig Feistner, Drew Fouty, Jose Quinones, Nick Grogan, Mike Devlin, Colton Lenz, Marlin Burke and Josiah Clairmont).

Lenz, Moll, Quinones, Devlin and Clairmont all went 2-0 in Tuesday competition for Polson.

Owen called the match of the day coming at 119-pound weight between Columbia Falls' Sal Baccaro and Polson's Craig Feistner. Baccaro won by decision thanks to a late takedown that settled the close match at 4-2 for a final.

Wrestling teams from the area will compete at the Tri-State Meet in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, while others will be at the Eureka Tournament this weekend.
