Twenty-nine seemed to be a magic number for the Superior Lady Bobcats last week. They beat both Darby and Troy by 29 points.

On Tuesday, the girls played Darby. Coach Jeff Schultz said that it was an important win for the girls as it was a conference game.

“We started out strong, but it was sort of close in the first quarter,” Schultz said. “Through the second quarter though, we had lengthened our lead. We picked up and came out strong in the second half.”

Schultz said that the girls did an outstanding job during the Darby game. They ended up winning 58-29.

“The girls played exceptionally well,” Schultz said.

Kaylee Crabb led with 12 points, Cary Chamberlain scored 11 points for the team and Malinda Steinbach scored 10. Chamberlain had 11 rebounds and Steinbach grabbed 10 rebounds.  Schultz said that Ashley Blaylock also had a great game and came close to obtaining a triple double.

“She was only a couple away in points, steals and assists,” Schultz said. “She had eight steals and nine assists.”

On Saturday, the girls played Troy and won 61-32.

“We started out even better than we did against Darby,” Schultz said. “Against Darby, we missed some open layups, but were able to fix that later.”

Schultz said that the girls’ defense against Troy was phenomenal.

“We were hitting a lot of steals and the defense was very aggressive and fast,” Schultz said. “We got a lot on them early on.”

Schultz said that when you have a winning total of 61 points you would think that one player would have scored in the 20s. But he said the nice thing about the team is everyone scores quite a bit.

Kaitlyn Koke led with 14 points, Chamberlain had 12, Blaylock had 12 and Nicole Stroot had eight.

“It was very spread out,” Schultz said. “One of the neat things too is that a lot of the girls helped the team to the win. Younger girls like Miranda Kuhl and Whitney Lapinski scored six and helped the team out.”

The girls played Arlee on Tuesday. Schultz said that Arlee has five returning starters and that they are a tough crew.

“We beat them by 15 points last year, but again it wasn’t an easy win,” Schultz said. “We were able to pull away at the end. (Arlee’s) not real tall, but they have basketball players that know how to put the ball in.”

Schultz said that on Monday, and in the future, they are going to be working on the offense and playing a half court game.

“We’ve kind of depended on our speed and getting away and running on other teams. But some of the teams that we have up ahead won’t allow us to do that,” Schultz said.
