MOSES LAKE - Improvement was obvious and to boot it was against a top 2B basketball program.

The Columbia Basin Secondary School Phoenix came a few missed free throws and shots away from their first win last night but fell 50-46 to visiting Davenport.

The Phoenix (0-5) were led by Kayleb Jensen's 25 points as they trailed throughout most of the game before taking a late 42-41 lead.

However, missed free throws - four down the stretch - and a missed layup opportunity late for a lead, kept the Phoenix from their first win of the season.

"I think we've improved every week and I am happy with that," Phoenix head coach Rolland Hansen said. "We played with six players play tonight and we saw some kids step up tonight and make some big plays down the stretch. Obviously our team is working hard on its defense and it showed tonight since it helped them stay in the game."
