CORVALLIS - At Corvallis over the weekend, the Mission-Charlo wrestling team saw freshman Jacen Peterson take first place in the 152-pound class by defeating Colter Benneton of Florence with a 16-8 decision.

Peterson recorded two pins to get to the finals.

"Jacen is beginning to turn some heads because of his aggressiveness and intensity, both qualities are essential for top caliber wrestlers yet rarely attributed to freshmen athletes," Mission-Charlo head coach Lyle Cronk said.

Sophomore Barret Sargent also had a good showing, getting revenge against Tray Graves of Salmon, Id., his only defeat of the week end, by defeated Graves 7-6 in the third place match for the 171-pound class.

"His only mistake of the day was in overestimating Graves the first time around," Cronk said. "Barret learned a lesson in the importance of confidence in yourself regardless of who you think your opponent is."

Senior Joel Lewis took fourth in the 189-pound class, and Chad Anderson took fourth as well in the 215-pound class.

"Both Chad Anderson and Joel Lewis finished a respectable fourth in the tournament, however it was their own mistakes that cost them in their final matches," Cronk said. "They understood that they should have won their final

matches and hopefully will remember their mistakes and

learn from them."

Mission-Charlo's Morgan Schultz pinned over Chase Cook from Big Sky in his second match and went 1-2 on the day. Junior Scotty Gilleard also pinned Jade Barney of Salmon. Cronk said he liked the effort he saw from the wrestlers over the weekend.

"Once again we were short handed wrestling only nine wrestlers with six out for various reasons," he said. "I was pleased with the effort of all of those wrestlers participating."

Cronk said he hopes Mission-Charlo will be up to full strength in Tuesday's matchup against Ronan, which at press time, could not have its results published.
