Lake County boys' basketball roundup for Dec. 21
Brandon Hansen | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 10 months AGO
Nearly a week and a half ago, many Lake County teams got their final games in before the start of winter break. Here is a run down of what happened.
Tuesday, Dec. 21
Stevensville 67, Polson 59
Stevensville got some excellent help from freshman Zack Gavlak, who dropped 25 on the Pirates. Polson (3-2) had no slouches when it came to scoring as well, senior Kyle Bagnell scored 19 and senior Louis Mohr added 16, but it wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets took the lead in the first quarter and didn't give it up it.
Since losing to Columbia Falls and Whitefish in the tip-off tournament, Stevensville saw Gavlak return to the lineup after a jetski accident and the team has gone 3-0 since.
Stevensville is coached by former Polson Pirate Keith Chambers and his photo is framed on the "Hall of Fame" just outside the court in Lindermann gym.
Pirates scoring - Kyle Bagnell 19, Louis Mohr 16, Sheldon Fisher 8, Vince DiGiallonardo 8, Tyler Krell 5, Cody Fischer 3

Eureka 56, Mission 40
The Mission Bulldogs (2-3) missed some chances early on and found themselves in a 28-14 hole at halftime they couldn't get out of en route to a 56-40 loss to conference foe Eureka.
"This has been a tough stretch of the season for us," head coach Lloyd Phillips said. "Our team is young, had limited practices. Plus, five of our first six games are on the road. We have to get better over the break and we will."
Freshman Stuart Grant had a career high 15 points on his fifteenth birthday and sophomore Nikko Alexander had 13 to lead the Bulldogs.
"We played just as hard at the end as we did at the start," Phillips said. "Our youngest guys have been doing the majority of our scoring, we need our older guys to step up."
Poor shooting also hampered the Bulldogs' comeback attempts, as they shot just 32 percent from the field but did a nice job on the boards, outrebounding Eureka 28-20.
Bulldogs scoring - Stuart Grant 15, Nikko Alexander 13, Austin McDonald 6, Austin Durglo 3, Josh Durglo 2, Jarred Smith-Brown 1

Arlee 56, Superior 46
Seniors Kasey Bridgewater and Trae Burland continue to show that they're the most dangerous 1-2 punch in the district.
Against Superior, Bridgewater scored 14 and Burland scored 13 as the Warriors (5-1) picked up the 10-point victory.
Superior made a run in the fourth quarter that made the score look closer than it was, as Arlee jumped out to a 51-32 lead after the third quarter.
Arlee also got nine points from senior Thomas McClure and eight from senior Jesse Pfau.
Warriors scoring - Kasey Bridgewater 14, Trae Burland 13, Thomas McClure 9, Jesse Pfau 8, Dakota Desjarlais 5, Beau Couture 5, Eneas Inmee 2
Charlo 68, Two Eagle 53
Chance Rosenbaum scored 23 points to lead the Vikings over Two Eagle River to stay undefeated on the season. Charlo jumped out to an early lead and fended off the Eagles in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
Rosenbaum had 12 rebounds and the Vikings got great play from their junior post Stephen Delaney, who scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds.
Two Eagle outscored Charlo in the fourth quarter but couldn't close the gap. They did get a balanced attack as Marcus Brown scored 14, Skyler Rossbach, Clayton Malatare and Trevor Butterfly all contributed 9 in the contest.
