RONAN — Forfeits helped Ronan in its dual against Whitefish last Tuesday.
Three Chiefs received forfeits in their 54-16 win.
Senior Tyler Wheeler started things off with an 8-7 decision and freshman Colby Roberts followed with a pin. In the lower weight classes, Ronan picked up 18 points from forfeits before freshman Shelby Grant, senior Cameron Neiss and junior Alex Greenfield all earned pins. Greenfield’s was the quickest at 1:14 and Grants was three seconds longer. Neiss’ came in the third period.
Sophomore Dustin Goldsby won 7-5 in overtime and freshman Quentin Denton had a second period pin to close things for the Chiefs.
Ronan will wrestle in the divisional tournament on Saturday in Polson. The location is an advantage for Ronan as the short drive means less traveling and more rest. The Chiefs also didn’t travel last weekend, so Azure said his team shouldn’t be tired.
“It’s going to be great,” Azure said. “We are used to traveling all over. Our kids are rested and ready to go.”
The Chiefs will also benefit from the location as many of their fans will be able to attend divisionals.
“Our fans are close,” Azure said. “It fuels the fire for our boys. They want to wrestle tough for their fans.”
