A teacher alleged to have had sexual contact with a minor was arrested during school hours Tuesday at Lakeside High School in Plummer.

Darin DeBolt, 26, bonded out of Benewah County Jail late Wednesday after Judge Patrick McFadden set bail at $50,000.

DeBolt has been charged with sexual battery of a minor child ages 16 or 17.

"We are concerned about this disturbing situation and are taking it very seriously," wrote Plummer-Worley School District Superintendent Judi Sharrett, in a letter sent home Wednesday to parents.

Employed by the district for five years, DeBolt, of Spokane, taught gym, health and coached at the 130-student school.

Sharrett told parents the alleged minor victim, from Benewah County, is not a student at Lakeside.

DeBolt has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Sharrett said.

School counselors, as well as an additional counselor from Benewah Medical Center, have been made available to students.

DeBolt is a graduate of Spokane's Rogers High School, where he played football, and a 2006 graduate of Eastern Washington University where he was a member of the cheer squad.
