The Montana Department of Transportation will host a public meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23 to discuss planned improvements to sections of U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 37 and will present information on road projects in the Libby area for this year.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m., at Libby City Hall.

MDT welcomes input on a request to re-stripe four miles of Highway 2 with the purpose of adding a two-way left-turn lane from Larch Street to Bowkers Street. The changes could result in the loss of on-street parking. The stretch is currently striped for four lanes.

On both Highway 2 and 37, MDT plans to repair sidewalk curb ramps and driveway approaches to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Details will be available about planned repairs and what effect businesses and landowners adjacent to the project can expect during construction.

MDT said construction is tentatively planned for this year, depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No property acquisition is anticipated although some utility relocation will be necessary for sidewalk repairs.

When submitting comments, MDT asks individuals to indicate that they are in reference to project CN 6897-6792-6798. The deadline to comment is March 15.
