SPIRIT LAKE - Natalie Lambert has a knack for helping others.
Her role as student body president at Timberlake High, she says, has more to do with helping the school than an interest in government.
"There's a lot of opportunities being involved in student council," she said. "It's definitely a path in which to do something."
Lambert was also secretary as a sophomore and vice president as a junior.
As president, she planned for homecoming during football season and the Battle of the Buck basketball rivalry game with Priest River this winter.
She also speaks during assemblies and campaigns and helps organize fundraisers and the drug abuse awareness activities.
Lambert is also involved with Idaho Drug Free Youth, Club Peace, National Honor Society, FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), track and has served as the varsity wrestling and football manager.
She has placed at the state track meet as a sprinter and on relays the past three years.
Club Peace, which promotes tolerance, puts on a donkey basketball fundraiser with the school staff and awards scholarships to deserving seniors. FCCLA assists teachers with meals when they work late and holds regional and state leadership contests.
Lambert plans to attend Boise State University this fall and pursue a degree in nutrition or general wellness. She said she likes BSU because of its location.
Lambert said she wanted to choose a career in which she can help others like she's done in high school.
"I think obesity is a serious issue in America," she said. "We need to take care of it more aggressively than we are."
She said she's especially interested in working with pregnant women.
"I want to make sure pregnant women are eating what they need to have healthy babies," she said. "A lot of them think that they can eat whatever they want, but that's not necessarily how it goes."
