SANDPOINT — A Sagle man was arrested Sunday for possessing two stolen camper trailers, one of which he used for himself and another he rented out.

Robert Murrell Myers said he was homeless and was only “borrowing” the trailers, according to a police report. He was charged with two felony counts of possession of stolen property.

Judge Barbara Buchanan set Myers’ bail at $20,000 on Monday and appointed a public defender to represent him, court records state.

Myers, 44, was arrested after one of the trailer’s former owners spotted the 37-foot Wildwood parked near U.S. Highway 95 in Sagle and reported it to authorities. A man found living in the trailer told a deputy he was renting it from Myers for $200 a month.

That trailer belonged to an insurance provider which paid out on a theft claim to its original owner.

Myers was living in an adjacent 21-foot KZ Spree trailer, which also turned out to be reported stolen. Both trailers were taken from Kootenai County last fall, according to the deputy’s report.

Myers was confronted about the stolen trailers and insisted he borrowed them from his employer, North Idaho RV & Motorsports, the report said. Myers denied stealing the trailers from Kootenai County, although North Idaho RV officials told the deputy the vehicles did not come from their lot.
