SAGLE — A structure fire ravaged a high-end home near Round Lake State Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Sagle Fire District Chief Rob Goodyear said the fire was “heavily involved” and the structure was beginning to collapse when firefighters arrived on the scene.

The advanced state of the fire prevented firefighters from mounting an internal attack, Goodyear said.

The home’s occupants, a family of four, were not home when the fire started, Goodyear said. A dog and pet guinea pigs were rescued from an attached garage, which firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to.

The cause of the fire and the point of origin remain under investigation, Goodyear said.

“We don’t think it’s suspicious,” he added.

The fire at 595 Copper Ridge Road was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Firefighters from Sagle and the Northside Fire District responded, as did Bonner County EMS.

The 3,500-square-foot home was listed for sale for $599,000, according to a Tomlinson Sandpoint/Sotheby’s International Realty listing.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home with contemporary styling was built in 2007, the listing said.

The fully-insured home with propane heat and fireplaces was located on a private road off Dufort Road, a few miles northwest of the state park.
