Arlee goes 2-3

RONAN — The Arlee wrestling team started and ended the Western Montana Duals in Ronan with wins last weekend.

Arlee opened with a 46-26 win over Darby with pins from freshman Albert Plant, junior Cole Rice and junior Bryce Norling. Freshman Austin Rubel added points with his 13-4 major decision in the 105-pound weight class.

The Warriors went on to face three Class A teams: Ronan, Polson and Frenchtown.

Against Ronan, sophomore Logan Lefler reached a pin in 48 seconds and Norling earned a third-period pin. Rice earned a tech fall over Dilan Starkel as Arlee lost 59-29.

The Warriors didn’t get a break against Polson, but every win it got came from a pin during the 66-24 loss.

Lefler’s was the quickest  at 42 seconds. Junior Curt Seidel was close with a 56 second pin in the 189 class. Rice and junior Damon Cordier earned theirs in the third period.

Two of those wrestlers notched pins in Arlee’s 58-24 loss to Frenchtown. Lefler got his in 59 seconds while Seidel got his at the end of the first period. Cordier won a 19-12 decision and Rice won a 7-4 decision.

In the last match of the tournament, Arlee benefited from four forfeits in its 45-34 win over Hamilton.

Sophomore Leif Rova started things out with a pin in the last seconds of his match before Hamilton earned four pins and a major decision to take a 28-6 lead.

Freshman Cameron Dominick won a 9-3 decision, Lefler earned a pin and sophomore Carter Clinkenbeard worked to a pin in the 135 class to close the lead to seven points. Three forfeits from Hamilton pushed the Warriors into the lead.

Arlee traveled to Mission/Charlo on Tuesday night. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Warriors will travel to Choteau for the Choteau Tournament this weekend.

Maidens lose two

Sophomore Nina Orozco dives for a ball during the Tip-off tournament. Against Big Sky last Tuesday, Ronan lost 63-13. Junior Jonna Grant led with four points and went two-for-two at the free throw line. Last Saturday, the Maidens lost 40-33 to Mission. Orozco led with nine points.
