On a visit to John Dunnigan’s website, an interesting description greets folks on the home page:

“If Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor and John Prine were joined together in some bizarre musical cloning experiment, the outcome would be John Dunnigan.”

Dunnigan, who has developed a strong following with his unique brand of folk singing, will appear in concert on Friday, Jan. 22 at the Memorial Center in Libby. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Dunnigan took to the backroads of Montana more than three decades ago and continues to play throughout the state and Pacific Northwest at various functions. Dunnigan’s show has been described as songs to “make you think, laugh, sing along and raise your glass in a toast to life. In short, he can put a smile on your face.”

Over his career, Dunnigan has played with Bonnie Raitt, Asleep at the Wheel, Norton Buffalo, The Dirt Band, Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Springsteen and many others.

He developed an interest in music after seeing the Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Quickly thereafter, he bought a guitar and soon began playing. He later toured the country with a band and eventually landed in northwestern Montana where he settled down.

“As he played around the Flathead Valley night after late night, it slowly dawned on John that he was destined for mediocrity,” Dunnigan’s website reads. “So, he developed a solo act and started writing original songs that were both heartfelt and hilarious.”

Over the years, he recorded several compact discs that feature some of the leading musicians in the Flathead Valley.
