LAKE COUNTY — Last Thursday, Jan. 14, was the first day candidates for November’s elections could officially file for candidacy. Filing is open until 5 p.m. on March 15, according to Lake County election administrator Kathie Newgard.

She said that interested parties can stop by the courthouse to find forms and file, and learn what the associated fees are.

County positions opening include attorney, clerk and recorder, District Two commissioner, justice of the peace, sheriff, superintendent of schools and treasurer/assessor.

Two local law enforcement figures have filed to run for Lake County Sheriff. Ronan assistant police chief Art Walgren has filed for candidacy, as has

Lake County undersheriff Jay Doyle. Current sheriff Lucky Larson will not run for re-election.

Beth Hoel has filed to run for the Polson Rural Fire Board and Paula Holle has filed for the Lake County Clerk and Recorder position.

Holle looks to replace current clerk Ruth Hodges, whom has served 30 years in public service.

Incumbent Rep. John Fleming has filed to run for the House District 12 seat. A press release said he was elected as House District 12 Representative in 2008 and served in the State House of Representatives for the 2009 legislative session. Rep. Fleming served on three committees: education, agriculture and business and labor. He also was appointed to the Economic Development Committee for the interim. Locally, he continues to serve on the St. Ignatius Rural Fire Board and Lake County Planning Board (past chairman).

“I feel comfortable representing the people of House District 12 and  sharing their values. I believe in honest listening, problem solving and in government meeting its commitments,” he said.

Roy Lee Anderson has announced his intention to run for Lake County Commissioner from District Two. A press release said Anderson was born and raised in the Mission Valley, and has had lifetime involvement in the local community, including 4-H coach and school and athletic events, building committees and school board member. Anderson has three children currently serving in the military: a son in the U.S army, currently serving in Afghanistan, a son ready to deploy, and a daughter in the U.S. Navy.

The other children are currently attending school in a local school district, the release said.

Ann Smith Brower has also announced her intention to run for District Two Lake County Commission.

Patti Duford Kugler will run for treasurer/assessor.

Brent Matson will run for Precinct 16 committeeman, Rory Horning will run for Precinct Three committeeman and Keith Baker will run for Precinct Eight committeeman.
