ARLEE — Balance is a goal for the Arlee girls’ basketball team.

Head coach Richard Bachmeier said one of his team’s goals is to have all five starters score in the double digits.

“We want to have even scoring all around,” he said. “We want a good balance.”

The closest the Scarlets have gotten to that goal was last Saturday night in a 46-29 win over Lincoln. 

“We’re getting to where we want to be,” Bachmeier said. “We aren’t going to blow people away but we will give a challenge.”

Freshman Tayla Desjarlais led with 10 points as junior Melissa Ivanoff and freshman Mahalia Hendren added nine and senior Chelsea Allaire and freshman Kristyn Adams each had eight.

Arlee opened up the game with 15 points that led to a 14-point lead at the half.

“We had a good start, with a good first quarter,” Bachmeier said.

With a 16-point fourth quarter, Arlee closed the game.

The night before was more of a battle. Against St. Regis, a physical game left the Scarlets with no major injuries, only bumps and bruises.

“We can muscle with anybody,” Bachmeier said. “We don’t back down.”

Ivanoff opened the game with five of her nine points en route to the 35-21 win. Adams led with 11 points.

The Scarlets played Two Eagle River on Tuesday but scores were unavailable at press time. Arlee has the weekend off and will resume play Feb. 4 in Hot Springs.
