ST. IGNATIUS — The Mission boys’ basketball team was still recovering from sickness and injuries last week in its 48-28 loss to Ronan.
“We knew going in we had a number of guys sick and hurt all week,” head coach Lloyd Phillips said. “But we still put five players on the floor at all times, just like they did.”
On defense, the Chiefs dribbled through Mission’s zone defense and were able to grab 19 offensive rebounds away from the Bulldogs. On offense, Mission shot six total free throws, with seniors Jorren Gies and Jake Durglo registering one each.
“Our game plan is to have [Gies and Durglo] shoot at least 10 between them,” Phillips said.
Gies earned a double-double, with 11 points, 11 rebounds.
“It was a very quiet night for Jorren,” Phillips said.
Sophomore Austin Durglo had two rebounds for Mission.
“It was his first start and he answered the bell,” Phillips said. “It was a big step ahead.”
Mission travels to Bigfork tonight and Eureka on Saturday for two conference games.
“We hope to be healthier this week,” Phillips said. “We have basic fundamentals to improve and we need everyone on the floor at practice to do so.”
